Must MD's carry such a "Holier than thou" attitude? So here is the scenario:
I am referred a patient by an MD.....I evaluate and decide said patient needs some forearm crutches. He is currently using a standard cane in one hand and a modified ski pole in the other....which is NOT safe whatsoever.
I send a request to the MD LAST FRIDAY and it gets sent back to me saying the MD never even looked at it. So.....on Wednesday I fax it over.....and ask for signature and return. NOTHING. SO I fax it AGAIN on Thursday.
This morning I asked the receptionist if any faxes have come in overnight....nothing. I explain to her that said MD is frustrating me as I do not know how I can make this happen without his signature. She reports that the MD walks by and waves every am, so she knows he is here. She says....do you want me to stop him and have him sign it? I NAIVELY agree.
Unfortunately she stops the MD and said patient IS IN THE WAITING ROOM!!!!!!!!
Oh crap, I can hear her talking to him about it and I freeze....I do not walk out as KNOW this is not appropriate with the patient right there.
Not minutes later the MD calls and starts giving it to the receptionist and then asks for me.
He continues to tell me that I will NEVER let that happen again and that it was TOTALLY inappropriate.....and on and on.
I hate that I have to just take it, knowing full well the whole time it was a bad scenario. In the end, I know it was my fault for agreeing to the receptionist's request to "just have him sign it".
All I am trying to do is make sure my patients have what they need to be the most successful and mobile as able.
Had to vent.....
What would YOU do?
