When will I learn.....needing to vent here.....

Man.
Let me give some background here......
Saw a lady last week who had 8.5/10 pain in her mid-back. She reports being unable to sleep or get comfortable in any position. She was pleasant, a retired law enforcement officer and seemed sincere about her pain level. She had an MRI done and I looked at it.....saw that it was not yet read and just looked to see what I could see. I am of course NOT a radiologist, I explained that to her and said it looked like she had some disc bulging in her neck and mid back.
Upon my examination she had extreme tenderness to mobilization with significant muscle spasm. In this type of situation I will not mobilize the spine as the muscles are clearly trying to protect the back. I did some gentle "hands-off" mobilization using a rolled up towel and applied some moist heat to try and calm the spasms (they are not neurological spasms, IMO) and advised her to contact me after the films have been read.....just to be safe.
At any rate.....
I check her chart every few days since to see if the results have been read. Today I find a note from her to her primary care physician.....
"The therapist looked at my MRI prior to my appt. Upon arriving and doing some flexibility tests and then reviewing my MRI again, she won't touch me and said not to let anyone touch my spine. Massage of muscles is fine as is heat to them but stressed not to let anyone touch my spine. WHAT IS UP WITH THE DAMN MRI THAT THE PT WON'T TOUCH ME other than to rub my muscles on my right side and apply moist heat."

Now, hear me out here. I SHOWED her the MRI and talked to her about what I saw. I explained my concerns in plain English (which is her native language btw).....and still she decides to make ME look like the idiot to her MD.

I ♥ it.

Sometimes I wonder why I do this......not only that but now I hope those of you who listen to me whine about orthopedic patients, not maybe you can understand why.

Back to work....oh.....3 of 4 more patient's orthopedic.......BLECH.
