I have to take a minute to ponder....do patients think we train and go to school for years and years to be taken advantage of? Do they REALLY think we do not know how to test for signs and symptoms of REAL injury? Do they think we do not read their charts?
Some patients are even brazen enough to ask straight up.....
"Will you see me more so that my settlement will be more?".
I purposely have photographs of some of my patients with neurological issues in my room.....a double amputee, a spinal cord injured patient, a 20 year old young lady with a blog about her stroke. I do this in HOPES that I get a chance to talk about these people. How can anyone sit in my room and tell me they are in "10 out of 10" pain and are invalids when they walked in here...without a brace or a walker or a cane....they drove here...it literally makes me SICK.
It is so incredibly challenging as a clinician to look these people in the face without screaming at them. Anyways....I digress....
This is among the MANY reasons why I LOVE the neuro population. People faced with REAL life altering challenges who WANT more than anything to get better and will work HARD to achieve their goals.
Ugh, the word of my day was malingering.....and on that note I cannot wait to go to pediatric clinic tomorrow morning and more than that I cannot wait for my coworker to be back so I don't have to see as much ortho....blech.

I'm sure I could tell you a few stories I have about the way people take their jobs for granted, but they pale in comparison to yours. It is truly sickening to see/hear people faking injury/pain to achieve more money from a settlement?!?!?!? What gives??? I'm sure it is difficult to hold your tongue, not sure if I could. Enjoy working with your peds tomorrow and tell your co-worker they owe you!
