As I mentioned in my last post I spent some serious time at REI last weekend. Another purchase was "Injinji" socks. A common complaint with marathon and long distance runners is blisters, typically due to overly sweaty/wet feet or just feet being cramped into a running shoe for nearly 4 hours. I have been pretty lucky in this area, wearing regular socks and running shoes without much foot trouble (knocking on wood.....). However, as I try to find items that may be needed in a different climate I thought these socks might help ward off blisters if I end up running in the rain in Seattle.
I had seen "cutesy" socks like this.....and always known that by separating the toes (or fingers for that matter) in socks like this it actually can make the toes more cold.....they generate more heat in a sock (or mitten for your hands). I had never given any thought to these as anti-blister socks.
Since I needed to do 7.5 miles this morning I figured I would try out the socks on a not-too-long run. I can say that trying to get my feet into them at an ungodly hour in semi-dark conditions was comical to say the least. Once I finally got them on my left foot was happy, but my right foot just felt weird. I had no problem with them, but I "felt" my right foot and toes the whole run. I will probably give them another try (or two) before I make a final decision.

I would have never thought about that... When I started working on the Mother Baby unit I managed to get terrible blisters all over my feet the first week! I never had any problems when I was in clinical rotations on linoleum floors, but something about the carpet on MBU caused major havoc on my poor feet. These would have been a great investment then! I have loved my nursing shoes up until that point (Calla by Dansko) Now my feet are nice and used to the conditions, we'll see if they continue that way after our floor is remodeled!
