What if life was fair?!?!?

I feel like I just got kicked in the stomach.
My Friday started good, a fairly quick 7 miles in a drizzling, refreshing rain. Chris left for a 72 this morning, but hey, at least it IS Friday after all.
An e-mail arrives when I sign in at work......
"Erin dear, I am so sorry to inform you that my Al passed away after complications with his chemotherapy. Thank you so very much for all your help & support... Al was a wonderful husband & friend and I will miss him so very much..."
Within the last few weeks I had set this patient and his wife up to get a special electric unit to help him walk, and now he is gone. This poor man had been through SO much.....transverse myelitis, a stroke and was battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma.....He was 65 years young.
I suppose it serves as that ever needed reminder that life is but a gift, each day our eyes spring open we are gifted with another chance to enjoy the world in which we live.

Be glad for the challenges that come into your life. They're difficult to appreciate when you're trying to deal with them. But those are the very times when you grow. Life is a series of good things and not so good things, and you need the bad to appreciate the good. Hard times build character. Negative events become positive lessons that better equip you to cope with future trials. It's during the hard times that you really get to know yourself. You are forced to look closer at yourself to find the hidden reserves of strength it takes to overcome adversity.

Ok mom. Did you pull that out of a Covey book ;) If not you should write a book full of insights you have given your chittlin's!
