Chris and I ran the Shamrock'n 1/2 marathon in Sacramento on Sunday morning. This was the "Chris-athon" as we called it as it was HIS version of a marathon (hehehehe!). I went in to the race without any expectations, just try to finish with a slightly faster minute/mile pace than Napa. Chris and I took off from the start together and stayed together until just about mile 2....after that, I felt pretty good so I started to push a bit more.
I ended up finishing with a 7:16 min/mile pace and took 4th in my age group (out of 363!). I was beyond pleased with that result....however had I been closer to the starting line I would have taken 3rd.....as my chip/gun differential was more than I missed third place by! Oh well, I had a great run and learned that maybe I can go ahead and get a bit closer to the starting line :)
Chris had set his time goal as 1 hour 50 minutes, which would greatly improve his time from the Seattle 1/2. After finishing I found Ma & Pa in the stands and anxiously awaited Chris' finish. At 1 hour 45 minutes he appeared in the outfield.....He beat his goal and maintained an 8:03 pace! I better watch out, I won't be able to keep up with him, he has improved his running so quickly since starting training.
We finished the morning with a fantastic breakfast at The Capitol Garage, in downtown Sacramento to celebrate the race and Poppa's birthday. What a great morning spend running and then visiting and enjoying a fabulous meal with Ma & Pa.
The bittersweet part of this weekend was that exactly one year to the day Tommy left for Seattle. Last year I remember spending a lot of time on the run thinking about where in the drive Tommy was and what was to come. Hard to believe it has already been a year with him in Washington.
We miss you every day Bubba!
