Running is my 'thing' and I ♥ it without a doubt. Lately I am felling more like myself with running, feeling strong, feeling fast. I have been in the sub-8's per mile this week and it feels great.
However....
I still don't get why drivers think that playing chicken with a pedestrian is funny, or whatever it is that makes them do this. Yesterday morning I was super pumped after running into my running pal Larry. We met only while out running Lincoln Hills and he ran Boston this year and I have not seen him since. We stopped and chatted about 5 minutes and I was really having a nice run after that talk as it got me pumped for Boston 2010. I was running home on a large two lane street making a slight right turn, running against oncoming traffic well into the bike lane. Mind you I wear a headlamp and a flourescent jacket or vest as well. Here comes a car and he is beyond hugging the bike lane marker, he is now IN the bike lane. I hold my position, I know there is no one on the road but him and me. He keeps coming at me....I hold my ground. Yes, I was feeling a bit rebellious at this point and stubborn.....
He slowed, but stayed on course to hit me.
I took one side step away from his course and could have touched his car as he went by me.
I turned and yelled as he passed and told him he was "#1" in no uncertain terms.
He stopped.
Perfect, now I can use my OC spray, find out how well it works. Heck, I saw what it did to Tommy in his academy. This idiot stood no chance.
I prepared myself and also stopped.....he hit the accelerator and drove off. Each time I would turn back to see where he was, he would hit his brakes.
REALLY?!?!?!?!
I ran the rest of the way home mumbling and grumbling to myself.
I just don't get it.
I was running in a RETIREMENT community, what the heck?
For just one minute I would love to know the thoughts of people like that.....are they planning to teach me a lesson? Am I SO wrong for running in the bike lane, well marked and opposing traffic? Ugh. Freakin' idiots.
Oh well. On that note....here is my latest Polyvore creation. It's certainly a good stress release after a story like that!

Same with being a biker IN THE BIKE lane. Sigh. People get thisclose to my husband and I, and I'm already riding practically against the curb or in the gravel and they are well into the bike line. Seriously? Really? And of course we ride with traffic so when they come up behind you, one doesn't always see them. Irritating. I get completely freaked out because I'm in clipless pedals, which means I get hit, I'm still attached to my bike!!!
I can only image how bad it is to be a runner, and seeing them come at you. Grr. Stupid people!
Maybe I can get you some spike-strips. Just plop them down on the ground as the a@#hole drives by. That should really slow them down ;)
That's so infuriating!! Next time tell him he's #2, one on each hand. I think sometimes the double bird is totally appropriate. Plus, it'll let you get your arms up in the air to help with breathing. What? :D
People! What nerve they have. Go get a job...!!! Glad you are ok :) Keep on runnin...so wish I would like you do! Love your creation too!
