Chasing all the field mice and......

When I got hurt I decided I needed to do a better job giving my legs a rest. I had taken for granted they would survive mile after mile, day after day. The logical option was the gym. I have a love-hate relationship with the gym. I love that it is there as an option, but hate feeling like a caged animal spinning my legs and going no where.
Next week my 'official' training for my first 50K begins. I decided to take it easy on my legs this week with only two road runs and gym the rest.
When I drive up to the gym I always look to see if the indoor lights are on. If yes....sweet, my workout is a go....if not, I cannot help but panic that the trusty employee will be there soon to open up the gym. Today....no lights....4:56 when I arrive and I try and relax...there is still time for someone to show up. 4:59.....no one......5:00.....5:05....by this time I am moments away from panic that I won't get to work out.
"Erin, you have work out clothes on.....why don't you just run"
-Because today is supposed to be an off day
"Yeah, but it's not looking good, come on, it will be fun"
-I have on cotton and old running shoes, no Garmin, no headlamp, no pepper spray
"It's go time....5:10, make your move"
-FINE!
I bolted out of the car and took off.
Luckily I had my running waist band to put my iPhone in, and took off down the street.
I knew part of the path I would take, however the first mile was unknown territory and very dark.....where is your head lamp when you need it!
When I got to familiar territory and into the park....things started to get interesting......
MICE.
Everywhere.
I finally started counting and got up to about 80 mice. It was comical....one mouse I could handle, but when 3 or 4 would dart in front of me.....yeah, I was the screaming girl in the park this morning. So 80 mice, a dozen rabbits (whom I scowled 'silly rabbit' at many times) and several frogs....oh and an unknown creature that sounded like a human jumping into the pond....
What a way to start the day!
Luckily for me....the roads are always open!
