While we were there I enjoyed a beautiful 18-mile run through the Lake Wilderness and Cedar River Trails- true gems to run on. We also experienced the paleo/primal lifestyle as T&L were participating in the "Paleo Challenge". Their Cross Fit gym, like many others, did a challenge to their members to go paleo with a good old fashion competition. While we were there I questioned and quizzed Tommy on this lifestyle and after perilously reading research article after research article.....I decided that from February 9-April 9 I would take the challenge.
Here is the premise:
In paleo/primal eating the traditional food pyramid looks a little different than we are used to. Primarily the idea is to eliminate dairy and wheat products and get carbohydrates from natural sources while having a lean protein source at every meal. With all my running I have decided I will still use carbohydrate rich drinks/gels/bars when I run, but minimize or eliminate 'bad carbs' otherwise. The greatest part so far has been trying new foods that had previously intimidated me such as kale, collard greens and parsnips. I have stayed true to the lifestyle thus far and can report I am doing well. I ran my first 20-mile training run this past weekend and although it was hard (what 20-mile run isn't) I cannot say there was much difference for me. The jury is still out and I will see how my body does over the coming weeks.
The basic rule for paleo and primal is.....
If this guy didn't eat it....neither should you!

Let me know what you think when you go Paleo. I have been on it since the day after x-mas and feeling great. Of course every once in a while I have a mini-cheat, but overall I have been pretty strict about following the basics.
Oooh! I like this idea! I'm interested to see how it goes for you! I've been lazily doing the "clean eating" thing, which really just boils down to don't eat what cavemen didn't have access to. Feels good!
