Chasing the wind

I haven't blogged about my running lately. This morning I logged my second speed workout in my training plan. The tally was 6 miles total, 1600m x 7:06 pace with 800m jog. Knowing I was running this alone, I had limited routes and knew I would have to tackle the hills in Sun City. Whenever I start a speed day I am always nervous as the pace seems incomprehensible. Regulating speed on the ground is hard, this is where I am thankful for my Garmin. When I hit start on my first interval I tried to get into the groove. My breathing has been the hardest to control, so I tried to focus on that and let my legs take me as fast as they would. When I finished... my lap pace for 1 mile was 6:44. Holy running shoes....I was happy, but exhausted. Between intervals I get to "jog" for 800 meters (1/2 mile), at this point trying to regain normal breathing is key. The second interval involved not one, but two hill climbs and then a nice descent. My lap pace for the second 1 mile interval was 6:53. Exhausted, I smiled to myself....glad it was over and even more glad that I did it. As an adult it is sometimes hard to prove things to yourself...about yourself...one small victory for me today.
Feeling good....hoping the heavy work load won't bring me down :)
